PCR Method Published While Kary Mullis, Ph.D., and his colleagues at Cetus Corporation first used an early PCR reaction to amplify β-globin sequences in 1985, it wasn't until January of 1987 when Dr. Mullis' full modified procedure was published in Methods of Enzymology. This paper gave researchers unfettered access to the method which sparked a revolution in molecular biology. Dr. Mullis would go on to win the Nobel Prize in 1993 for his discovery.
