DNA Enrichment Kit ELISA Automation Module The NEBNext® Microbiome DNA enrichment kit can separate microbial DNA from host DNA. The kit utilizes the MBD2Fc protein, which can bind to CpGmethylated DNA (including human genomic DNA) with high specifcity. The MDB2-Fc protein is attached to Protein A-coated magnetic beads, allowing for the removal of the contaminating host DNA in about 30 minutes. The microbial DNAenriched sample is then ready to be processed for multiple downstream applications, including next-generation sequencing, qPCR, and endpoint PCR. A new module for the Microlab® STAR workstation is available that automates enzyme-linked immunoabsorbant assays (ELISAs). The Microlab ELISA STARlet workstation integrates liquid-handling instrumentation with multiple devices and software. The module can process up to 10 plates, and plates exit into a holding space rather than the waste container to enable the technician to visually inspect and read the plate on a diferent instrument or follow any specifc directions for disposal. New England Biolabs Hamilton Robotics www.neb.com www.hamiltonrobotics.com LC Triple-Quadrupole Mass Spectrometers The EVOQ Elite ER™ is a new addition to the EVOQ family of LC-TQ systems, with a mass range to 2,000 m/z for peptide quantitation or other high-m/z applications. The EVOQ LC-TQ platform features a heated electrospray ionization source that can reserve and ionize thermally fragile molecules without discrimination, an active exhaust atmospheric pressure ionization source with an orifce vacuum interface, a fat-tuning Interlaced Quadrupole Dual Funnel (IQ-DF™) to increase sensitivity, a lens-free triple-quad mass flter design, and Pacer™ software, which enables exception-based data review, a feature that reduces the error rate for quantitative analysis. HPLC Column ZIC®-cHILIC is designed for HPLC and LC-MS analysis of polar hydrophilic compounds. This zwitterionic stationary phase with phosphorylcholine functional group can provide complementary selectivity for method development for substances that have been difcult to separate by previous types of HPLC columns operated in reverse-phase or HILIC mode. The selectivity features of ZIC-cHILIC work well for negatively charged polar compounds such as nucleotides and organic acids, but can also provide separations of positively charged hydrophilic molecules such as aminoglycosides and cations. The column is also suitable for zwitterionic and neutral polar hydrophilic substances. EMD Millipore www.emdmillipore.com Bruker www.bruker.com Bioinformatics Software Platform Vector NTI® Express Designer is designed for molecular biology, metabolic engineering, genetic engineering, and synthetic biology professionals who want to design, assemble, and order synthetic genetic parts. An extension of the Vector NTI software oferings, Express Designer incorporates an integrated gene synthesis service for sequence submission and order placement. In addition to designing and ordering custom components, the software also contains an electronic database or "mini electronic lab notebook" that allows researchers to maintain a searchable record of genetic parts, constructs, and experimental results that can be referred to and utilized to improve constructs and circuits. Purifcation Filters and Supports Life Technologies Porex® Afnity Filters and Supports is a range of porous materials used to enhance functionality through surface modifcation or sorbent addition and used in applications as pipette tips, 96well plates, spin columns, and gravity fow centrifuge columns. They are designed to capture, clean up, desalt, and purify peptides, proteins, and oligonucleotides and are available in molded discs, sheets, rolls, or with embedded carbon, C8, or C18. Surface modifed, blended with sorbents, or used as homogeneous peptide or protein supports in purifcation and concentration methodologies, Porex Afnity Filters and Supports can help facilitate high resolution with high fow velocity. www.lifetechnologies.com Porex www.porex.com 54 | September 1, 2013 | GENengnews.com | Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News
